Sambalmee Productions

About us

Established in the UK by Malaysian-born Razli Dalan, the collective was formed in late 2013 for the production of its first feature-length experimental work, Haruan: The Snakehead (2014).
To date, Haruan has garnered more than 20 awards & honourable mentions at over 36 international film festivals, and is still currently on the festival exhibition circuit worldwide, by invitation.
In 2017, the collective shot WoE, a mid-length experimental film in Tallinn, Estonia. It is currently  in post-production.
The textual-visual script of the collective's second feature-length experimental work, Kantan: Red Ginger Lily, began its journey in 2016. This 262-page graphic novel of the same name is scheduled for its first-edition release in July 2023 at a venue in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Razli Dalan

Sambalmee Productions

Razli Dalan is a Malaysian based in the UK. Over the past few years, he has been trying to balance life, work within the medical profession and learning about cinema and filmmaking. His films are often dark, expressionistic and experimental, with evocative use of colours, soundscapes and imageries. He has made several short films. Haruan: The Snakehead (2014) is his first feature-length work. For most of his films, he often tries to utilise a completely visual pathway within their workflow whenever possible, from ideation right down to post-production. This practice results in drawn - either on paper or digitally - graphic panels which are then used as textual-visual 'scripts' by the cast and crew for the respective film. The graphic novel Kantan: Red Ginger Lily (2023) is his most recent example of one of these.
